About Us

The Biomass Research and Development Board is responsible for coordinating Federal activities in order to promote development and adoption of biobased fuels and biobased products.

The Biomass Board was created by Congress in 2000 and is co-chaired by USDA and DOE. With input from its Technical Advisory Committee, the Biomass Board advises USDA and DOE in implementing the Biomass R&D Initiative.  The Initiative consists of loans and grants made through the Section 9008 and other programs.

The Biomass Board is co-chaired by:

In October 2008, the Biomass Board released a National Biofuels Action Plan (PDF 4.2 MB) which outlined areas in which interagency cooperation will make it possible for industry to deploy advanced technologies in the market and achieve significant production scale within 15 years.
